Ambulatory NEMT

Ambulatory Medical Transportation
in Northern Virginia

Professional, door-to-door non-emergency medical transportation for patients who can walk independently or with minimal assistance. More reliable than a rideshare — purpose-built for medical appointments.

What is ambulatory transportation?

Ambulatory transportation is the most common form of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT). It is designed for patients who can walk on their own, or with a mobility aid like a cane or walker, but who cannot safely or reliably drive themselves to medical appointments. The patient walks into and out of a standard passenger vehicle — no lift or stretcher required.

This service is fundamentally different from a taxi or rideshare. Pak Medical Transportation Services is a professional NEMT provider — our drivers are trained in patient assistance, medical transport protocols, and punctual scheduling. We are held to standards of accountability that rideshare drivers simply are not. When you have a standing medical appointment, you need a transportation partner you can trust to show up — not a gig worker who might cancel.

We provide ambulatory transport to all types of non-emergency medical appointments throughout Northern Virginia: primary care visits, specialist consultations, physical therapy, occupational therapy, mental health appointments, chemotherapy, imaging, labs, dental visits, and more. If it is a medical appointment and not an emergency, we can get you there safely and on time.

Who needs ambulatory medical transportation?

Many people who walk perfectly well still have no reliable way to get to medical appointments. Here are the most common situations where ambulatory NEMT makes a difference.

Seniors Who No Longer Drive

As people age, many stop driving — whether by choice, medical necessity, or license expiration — while still living independently and attending regular medical appointments. Ambulatory NEMT gives them safe, dignified transportation without relying on family members every time.

Temporary Injury or Recovery Patients

A broken arm, foot surgery, or post-procedure restriction may prevent someone from driving for weeks. Ambulatory NEMT bridges the gap during recovery, ensuring patients can attend all their follow-up appointments without burdening family or friends.

Mental Health & Behavioral Health Patients

Consistent attendance is essential for mental health treatment. Many patients attending therapy, psychiatry appointments, or outpatient behavioral health programs lack reliable transportation — and inconsistent rides lead to missed appointments and disrupted care.

Chemotherapy & Radiation Patients

Many oncology medications and radiation treatments cause fatigue, nausea, or cognitive effects that make driving unsafe. Ambulatory NEMT provides a reliable ride both to and from the treatment center, so patients can focus entirely on their recovery.

Medicaid NEMT Beneficiaries

Virginia Medicaid covers NEMT for eligible members attending covered medical appointments. Ambulatory transportation is the most common type of covered NEMT. We work with transportation brokers and can help guide you through verifying your coverage.

How ambulatory transport works

Simple, reliable, and stress-free from start to finish.

01
Request Your Ride

Call (571) 229-0778 or submit a request online. Provide your pickup address, medical facility destination, and appointment time. For recurring appointments, we set up a standing schedule.

02
Confirmation & Driver Details

We confirm your ride and share expected pickup time. For your first trip, we can also share driver information so you know who to expect at your door.

03
Door-to-Door Pickup

Your driver arrives at your door — not just the curb. If you need a steady arm getting to the vehicle, we provide that assistance with patience and care.

04
Timely Arrival & Return

We route for your appointment time and plan the return pickup after your visit. You tell us when you are done, and we are there.

Types of Appointments We Cover
Primary care & family medicine visits
Specialist consultations (cardiology, neurology, etc.)
Physical & occupational therapy
Mental health & behavioral health visits
Oncology, chemotherapy & radiation
Medical imaging (MRI, X-ray, CT)
Lab draws & bloodwork appointments
Wound care & post-surgical follow-ups
Dental & oral surgery appointments
Outpatient clinic & urgent care visits

Why choose Pak Medical for ambulatory transport?

We are a dedicated NEMT company — not a gig platform. Every part of our service is built around reliable, professional medical transportation.

Trained Medical Transport Drivers

Our drivers receive training specific to medical transport — patient assistance, sensitivity to health conditions, punctuality standards, and professional conduct. You will not get a driver who has never heard of NEMT protocols.

True Door-to-Door Service

We do not drop you at the curb. Our drivers come to your front door, assist you to the vehicle if needed, and walk you to the clinic entrance at your destination. The same courtesy is provided on the return trip home.

No Surge Pricing, No Cancellations

Unlike rideshare, our rates do not fluctuate based on demand, and our drivers are scheduled and committed to your trip. You will not get a last-minute cancellation that leaves you stranded before a medical appointment.

Frequently asked questions about ambulatory transportation

Ambulatory NEMT is a specialized medical transportation service, not a rideshare. Our drivers receive training in patient assistance, sensitivity, and medical transport protocols. We are accountable to you and to insurance brokers for on-time performance. Rideshare drivers are not trained for medical contexts and cannot be reliably booked for standing medical appointments.
Yes. Ambulatory transportation is for patients who can walk with or without a mobility aid such as a cane, walker, or forearm crutches. Our drivers are trained to provide steady assistance when boarding and exiting the vehicle. If you use a wheelchair full-time, our wheelchair transportation service is a better fit — we offer that too.
We transport patients to all types of non-emergency medical appointments: primary care, specialist visits, physical therapy, occupational therapy, mental health and behavioral health visits, oncology and chemotherapy, imaging and labs, wound care, dental, and more. As long as it is a non-emergency trip, we can help.
All Pak Medical Transportation drivers undergo background checks, motor vehicle record reviews, and patient sensitivity training before working with us. We are a professional NEMT company with established protocols — not a platform where anyone can sign up. Your safety and comfort are our highest priorities.
